Georgia Appliance Rebate Program Assembled By Georgia Environmental Facilities Authority

The state of Georgia will be ready to implement its share of the Government Appliance Rebate program with the state expecting its award of $9,293,000. Georgia Environmental Facilities Authority (GEFA) is requesting proposals from potential Service Providers to develop, implement, and fully execute GEFA’s State Energy Efficient Appliance Rebate Program (SEEARP), and has submitted it plan on October 15th., and expects an award confirmation sometime in early December with the program slated to be underway late February of 2010


The purpose of the Georgia appliance rebate program is to save energy and stimulate the economy by encouraging consumers to replace old appliances with new ENERGY STAR qualified models. This program is funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA).


Georgia Appliance Rebate program objectives:


  • Save energy by encouraging appliance replacement
  •  Make rebates available to consumers statewide
  • Enhance existing rebate programs by leveraging ENERGY STAR national partner relationships
  • Keep administrative costs low
  • Ensure state and national tracking and accountability
  • Use existing ENERGY STAR consumer education and outreach materials

  • Provide overall check processing and payment management with minimal GEFA oversight dayto-day, ensuring accurate and timely delivery to applicants – check mailed to recipients within 72 hours of receiving necessary information
  • Develop a real-time, on demand, data collections and reporting system that will accurately collect, aggregate, summarize and deliver the required data to GEFA




The Georgia appliance rebate program is to be designed to incentivize replacement of existing appliances with a qualifying appliance. States have the flexibility to select which residential ENERGY STAR qualified appliances to include in their programs and what rebate amount to assign for each. It is expected that the Georgia appliance rebate with include the following residential ENERGY STAR qualified appliance categories:


  • Boilers
  • Central air conditioners
  • Clothes washers
  • Dishwashers
  • Freezers
  • Furnaces
  • Heat pumps
  • Refrigerators
  • Room air conditioners
  • Water heaters
