The Tennessee appliance rebate program will receive $5.9 million for rebates and administrative costs, and will be funded by federal dollars through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. The Tennessee appliance rebate program application was approved on December 2, 2009 by the U.S. Department of Energy.

Eligible appliances for the TN rebate program will include air source heat pumps, central air conditioners and room air conditioners with the Energy Star designation. A rebate of $250 will be available for the air source heat pumps and central air conditioners, while room air conditioners will be eligible for a $40 rebate.

Statewide, the estimated energy savings for delivery and installation of qualified heating and cooling products is approximately 16 million kilowatt hours per year. A reduction in energy use of that size translates to a yearly savings of almost $1.4 million in energy costs for Tennesseans and reduces the amount of carbon dioxide emitted into the atmosphere by 32 million pounds annually.

When Will The Tennessee Appliance Rebate Program Start:

The target date for the launch of the program is Earth Day, April 22, 2010. It’s expected that most states participating will not be fully up, and running with the appliance rebate program until early spring of 2010. Once each state  is approved they can begin to start their own appliance rebate programs. The government appliance rebate program should be available for most consumers nationwide by late 2009 or early 2010, depending on each state’s progress.

The average home spends about $2,200 on energy bills every year, and changing to appliances that have earned the ENERGY STAR rating can save $75 a year in energy costs, while saving the environment by reducing fossil fuel emissions. In addition consumer spending, while on the rise, should increase once the government appliance rebate program goes into full effect.

The Tennessee appliance rebate program will help consumers purchase more efficient heating and cooling systems, and help families reduce their energy use and save on their heating and cooling bills each month.
